I first met Ron when he was marrying my cousin Sheila and only saw him a time or two after that.  I was impressed with his strength of spirit, courage and drive in adversity and with his kindness.  Through all of his pain and physical challenges, he remained an amazing encouragement.  My prayers are with Sheila, Gwen and the rest of the family that he leaves behind.  (I only mentioned Gwen because I have yet to meet her brothers).
















My sorrow and condolences to you, Shiela, and your family for the loss of Ron. Although we haven't seen each other for several years, I have fond memories of time spent together(when you, Ron, Wayne, me and our kiddos were very young), reminiscing about our Tarheel roots. Sheila, Baker and I will miss Ron's laugh, gleeful spirit, quick wit, and optimistic outlook on life.  We are better people because of the example he showed all who knew him. Heaven is rejoicing his arrival.  We love you and hope to see you very soon.

Family is important, and it's great when you have a wonderful person in that family. I so enjoyed talking and laughing with Ron when he and Sheila got over to North Carolina. I've respected him for the courage he showed in business and in his health problems. Laughter and courage are worth remembering. Thanks Cousin Ron. Love, as always, to your family.

When I was lucky enough to visit my 4 cousins in Albemarle, NC, when growing up , Ron was always a sweet older cousin. I loved his whole family. Our family was always proud of Ron and his many accomplishments. We appreciate Sheila too and especially all she did for Ron. She made sure they came to many family events through the years. What love.

Most of us are lucky enough in our lives to have had positive influences around us while growing up.  Uncle Ron was my mom's sister's husband and a light in my life.

Ron had an open mind and was game for argument injected with a lot of humour.  He'd encourage us to give our point of view and would agree or disagree with critical thought...and while he was a worldly man he also retained that down-home charm that captured my imagination and heart. 

And so it was that Ron was a teacher to me, whether he knew it or not. It was always a treat and great excitement was had when Ron and Sheila would come up to Canada to visit.  He encouraged my creative side, and in his drawl would say things like, "I don't know how you people come up with the stuff you do, I guess I'm just not cut out for that kind of stuff but I'd like to be".  Those words came with a virtual hug and their efficacy remains.

I'll miss him, I always will, but as I come into an age where lines aren't so divisive anymore and life seems short, I hope I can be half the philosopher and humorist he was.
