February 10, 1937 – February 7, 2026
Rosalinda R. Steely was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, friend, godmother, aunt and above all a
faithful Catholic.
She passed away peacefully on February 7, 2026, just three days
before her 89th birthday, after a long and courageous battle with
ALS. She faced her illness with extraordinary grace, quiet
strength, and an unwavering love for her family and her faith.
Born on February 10, 1937, in Newgulf, Texas, she was the sixth
of eight siblings—all but one of whom predeceased her.
She settled in 1964 into the same cherished home in Houston,
where she lived for the past 58 years. It was in that home she
raised her three children—Sharon, Sandy, and Travis—filling their
lives with warmth, stability, guidance, and countless joyful
memories.
A lifelong devout member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic
Church, Rosalinda was married there and will be laid to rest from
there as well. She remained deeply connected to her parish
community throughout her life, and her faith provided her with
comfort, purpose, and a source of strength, especially during her
battle with ALS.
Rosalinda loved to dance and was always up for a party; her
infectious energy, playful sassiness, and quick wit endeared her
to so many, making her the life of any gathering and a beloved
presence wherever she went. She was also an accomplished
tennis player who loved the game and was always ready to
challenge anybody to a match, continuing to play into her 80s.
Above all, she was a wonderful mother whose greatest joy was
her family. She is survived by her three children, Sharon
McKinnon and her husband Mike, Sandy Steely, and Travis
Steely and his wife Amber; her six grandchildren, Mikey, Allie,
Kacey, Stefanie, Nick, and Kelli; and one great-granddaughter,
Charley Rose, who carries her name as a loving tribute to her
legacy of devotion and family connection. She cherished going to
all her grandkids games and activities, staying up late for family
dancing sessions, and teaching them the fine art of Texas Hold
'em poker—creating bonds filled with laughter, competition, and
endless love.
She was also a dear friend to many, a cherished godmother, and
beloved “Aunt Rosie” to many nieces and nephews. She is
survived by her youngest sister, Dolly Fernandez, who she loves
very much.
Her quiet determination, indomitable fighting will, and steadfast
faith will live on in the hearts of all who knew her and will miss her
tremendously.
A Rosary will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 10:30
a.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 1801 Sage
Road, Houston, TX 77056. The Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00
a.m. at the same church. The committal will take place at 12:30
p.m. at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery, 12800 Westheimer
Road, Houston, TX 77077.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the ALS
Association. Rosalinda was a part of a clinical trial to help find a
cure for this debilitating disease and would want donations sent
to assist in any way possible.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered as the heart
of her family and a pillar of faith in her community.
With love, Her Children—Sharon & Mike, Sandy, and Travis & Amber— Grandchildren—Mikey, Allie, Kacey, Stefanie, Nick, and Kelli—
Great-Granddaughter Charley Rose.
A Catered Reception will be held at 1:00 pm in the Event Room at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home, 12800 Westheimer Rd., Houston, TX 77077.
