Rose Mary Sorenson

She was born to the late Roy Calvert and Catherine Duff April 7, 1922 in Wichita Falls, Tx. Rose Mary attended Texas State College for Women in Denton, Tx. She married the late Waldemar R. Sorenson on July 15, 1944, and they lived together in Port Arthur, Tx., Long Beach, Ca., Norwalk, Ct., Wenonah, N.J., and Fort Bend County, Tx.

She served as the first female personal and confidential secretary to the manager of Texaco’s Port Arthur plant. Rose Mary also served on the board of United Way in Port Arthur, and she helped establish a speech and hearing clinic in Port Arthur. In addition, she loved to golf and travel.

Rose Mary is survived by a daughter, Sharon Roberts, of Austin, two grandchildren, Ann Killebrew, of Victoria, Tx., and Patrick Roberts, of Washington, DC, and one great-grandson, Morris Killebrew, of Victoria.

She was predeceased by sisters Julia May and Helen Louise and is survived by sisters Virginia Lee and Catherine.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the St. Matthews Episcopal Church Senior Activity Center, or a charity of your choice.

A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at 2:00 pm in the Wilson Room at St. Matthews Episcopal Church in Austin, Texas. Burial will be held Thursday, February 20, 2014 at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston, Texas.
