She was born on November 11, 1940, in Dobskyville, Texas, to Caesar Goehring and Rosalia Dobsky. Roslyn grew up in the country as part of a large extended family. When she went to the “city” (Yorktown) for High School, she met Hilmer Lee Potcinske. After making sure they were not related, they started dating and eventually married. They were a good match; she was the Head Cheerleader, and he was the football star! Roslyn and Hilmer lived their whole married life in Houston and celebrated 65 years of marriage this past June 2025.
Roslyn was very proud of her children, Sheri and Jon. She would tell you that the three best days of her life were the day she married Hilmer, picking up Sheri, and picking up Jon. She was the best of all moms.
Roslyn worked as a legal secretary and bookkeeper for many years, making friends along the way. She was an avid tennis player for many years, her competitive nature making her a force on the court. She rooted loud and proud for her UH Cougars, enjoying the Cougar football games as a season ticket holder. Roslyn loved to play games, especially bridge. She belonged to several bridge groups and usually won if she had good cards. She made many lifelong friends playing cards.
Roslyn was talented in many areas. She could crochet, knit, quilt, paint, and make beautiful stained glass. Roslyn had a green thumb, as well. She loved her flowers and would proudly show off her star-gazer-lilies and Christmas cactus blooms.
Roslyn was a long-time member of the Oaks Forest Lions Club, serving her community with her fellow Lionesses. She was an active member at Advent Lutheran Church and, most recently, Kinsmen Lutheran Church, leading a small group, teaching ESL, and quilting with the Quilt Ministry.
Roslyn was always available to help when her family or friends needed her. She took care of Austin until he was two, and later Marieke as well. She loved taking care of her grandbabies – they brought her such joy!
After retirement, Roslyn and Hilmer traveled the world. They visited all fifty states, five continents, most of the National Parks, and enjoyed many cruises. They made friends as far away as Australia. They loved exploring and had wonderful adventures, most recently Austin’s wedding in Italy, followed by a Greek cruise.
Roslyn is preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Dorothy, Gladys, and Bernice, and her brother Alonzo. She is survived by her loving husband Hilmer, her daughter and son-in-law, Sheri and Carsten Alsguth, her son Jon Potcinske, her grandson Austin Alsguth (wife Jamie), and granddaughter Marieke Alsguth (husband Alex), her sister Patsy Green, many nieces and nephews, great-nephews/ nieces and many, many friends.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Quilting Ministry at Kinsmen Lutheran Church.
