Linn was a devoted husband, proud father, adoring grandfather, and a loyal friend to many. His life was filled with laughter, love, curiosity, and the kind of quiet wisdom that left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
He spent his early years in Amarillo, the youngest of three brothers, and was raised in the San Jacinto Church of Christ. His college journey took him from Amarillo, down to Houston, up to Abilene, and eventually earning his degree from West Texas State University in Canyon. In 1970, he met Sherry Condon through a mutual friend at the Humble Building Observatory - Sherry quickly fell for his sense of humor, curiosity and kind heart. They were married in 1972 and shared 52 beautiful years together.
Linn had a deep love for music and art—passions he proudly passed on to his children. He held a special appreciation for the past and talent for breathing new life into old things. From vintage jukeboxes and antique Coca-Cola machines to worn-out appliances and old lawnmowers, there was little he couldn’t restore. His creativity and craftsmanship were reflected throughout the family’s home, each piece telling a story of his curiosity and handiwork.
He spent a good portion of his career at Johnson Supply where he made lifelong friends and learned all things HVAC, which paired well with his love for fixing things. He concluded his career at M&D Distributors where he got to dabble with more parts and big equipment. Linn retired in 2018.
Above all else, Linn was a family man. He was endlessly proud of his children, Ryan and Shannon, and was always there to cheer them on - at sporting events, school plays, or any moment that mattered. Becoming a grandfather was the greatest joy of his life. His face lit up with delight when he spoke of Shane, Shelby, Truett, and Travis.
Linn was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Laune Phillips, and his brother, Jodie Phillips.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Sherry Phillips; son, Ryan Phillips (Katie) of Magnolia; daughter, Shannon Smith (Dustin) of Johnson City; and his treasured grandchildren, Shane and Shelby Phillips, and Truett and Travis Smith. He also leaves behind his brother, Jimmy Phillips (Carolyn); sister-in-law, Barbara Harrison Condon; nephews James, Matt, and David Phillips; nieces Jennifer Phillips and Kristi Dockum; and a wide circle of extended family and lifelong friends.
Linn Phillips will be remembered for his gentle spirit, clever hands, generous heart, and the legacy of love he leaves behind. He built a life rich in kindness, laughter, and meaning — and he will be missed beyond measure.
A celebration of Linn’s life will be held on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home in Houston, TX. Prior to the service, visitation with the family will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Following the service, friends and family are invited to gather at one of Linn’s favorite local spots to share memories and honor his life.
