Royce Lee Crawford entered eternal rest on September 23, 2022, in New Caney, Texas. He was 89 years old. During his battle with Alzheimer’s his courage & strength in facing everyday stayed true to his "Crawford" name. Royce was born July 14, 1933, in Shelby County, to Dewitt and Lucy Crawford. He did it his way and on his own terms even in his final days. Royce kept his smile and his sense of humor through each obstacle that he faced. Royce would say "he had a good life."
Royce was a beloved husband, father, and pawpaw. Royce is preceded in death by his wife Catherine “Katy” Crawford. He is survived by children Donna and husband Jerry Hernandez, Carl Wayne and wife Lori Crawford, Debbie Sue and Tracy Berry and (Robert). A sister Juanene Verda Long. Numerous nieces and nephews.
Royce was a simple man. He was determined & strong willed all through his life. He was a good teacher to many, kindhearted and never meet a stranger. Loved his family and was a provider and hard worker. Royce had a few things in life that he loved but the most important ones was the love of his wife “Katy”, his children, grandkids, great grandkids, and redeye “his dog”.
In 1941 his family moved from Center Texas to Houston, Texas. Royce grew up in the family’s Auto Lube, Tire, General and Feed Store. Royce has always credited his ability to get along with people from the family business and a handshake meant something. Royce started out with a dump truck, then his next adventure was getting into house moving. Before long Royce opened his own business R.L. Crawford House Moving. What an adventure it was for the next 29 plus years he was for years he was the #1 mover in the state of Texas.
Other adventures were having a place in Singleton, Texas were there was 40 Acres of land that had to be cleared, crops to grow, animals to raise, and plenty of fence to build.
But his biggest adventure he took was one day decided to build a shrimp boat. People would tell him “Royce you don’t know anything about building and boat and besides where are you going to build it at?” Well, with that Crawford grin on his face he said, “Well I do have a garage, and so he began building his boat.” Once completed he headed to Smithpoint, Texas and launched it but seeing it in the water and got to the dock he turned to say, “Well it’s got to come back out it’s not long enough,” so he did just that. Back to the drawing board he went, once that was completed you seen a very happy man that is when the Miss Deb was born. Now he had something else he accomplished and was good at Shrimping, Oystering and Live Baiting business. Royce was the happiest and at peace sitting under the tree on the three acres of property at Smithpoint, Texas. Royce was a wonderful provider and giver to his family and friends with the knowledge that he gave but also shown to everyone that ever meet him.
