October 13, 1959 – October 18, 2026
With deep sorrow and enduring love, we remember Ruben Vasquez Zarate, who entered eternal rest on October 18, 2026, at the age of 67. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend whose presence brought warmth and laughter to the lives of those around him. As we mourn his passing, we also celebrate his life and give thanks for the years we were blessed to share with him.
Ruben was born on October 13, 1959, in La Labor de Peralta, Abasolo, Mexico, to Roman Zarate and Juana Vasquez Jaramillo. His devotion to his loved ones and his willingness to work hard for their well-being became meaningful parts of the life he built.
For 47 years, Ruben shared his life in marriage with his beloved wife, Sara P. Zarate. Together, they raised a family and shared the joys, challenges, and everyday moments that make a life together meaningful. Their marriage holds nearly five decades of memories—from watching their children grow to welcoming new generations into the family. The life they built together will always be an important part of their family’s story.
Ruben understood the value of hard work and took pride in providing for his loved ones. Throughout his career as a forklift operator with companies including W. M. Dewey & Son and Brown & Root Industrial Services, his dedication reflected his sense of responsibility. Behind that work was his desire to care for the people who mattered most to him. His efforts remain an example of perseverance and of the many ways love can be shown through daily actions.
Away from work, Ruben enjoyed music, dominoes, card games, and the company of family and friends. He loved telling jokes and had a way of bringing laughter into a gathering. Some of the most meaningful memories of him are also the simplest: time spent talking, playing a game, or enjoying an afternoon together. Those moments, so familiar at the time, are now treasured reminders of the happiness he brought into our lives.
He especially loved sitting by the water, where he could relax and enjoy the quiet. As we remember him, that peaceful image offers comfort—a moment of rest, with time to simply enjoy his surroundings.
Being a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather gave Ruben a lasting place in the lives of several generations. Each member of his family carries their own memories of him, and each will remember him in a personal way. Together, those memories tell the story of a man who was deeply loved and whose place in our family can never be filled.
He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Juana Vasquez Jaramillo, and his brother, Rosalio Zarate.
Ruben leaves behind his devoted wife, Sara; his children, Rubicelia Vera, Rosalio Zarate, Patricia Zarate, and Heriberto Zarate; his son-in-law, Victor Vera; his daughter-in-law, Magaly Zarate; and his treasured grandchildren, Alyssa Vera, Jazmin Zarate, Samantha Zarate, Ruben Zarate, Camila Torres, Alejandra, Juan, Gabriela, Augustino, Cheyenne, Isaias, Gabriel, Damyan, and Catalali.
He is also survived by his brothers, Juan Zarate and Jose Luis Zarate, along with extended family members and dear friends who will hold his memory close. His loss is felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him and sharing in his life.
There is no easy way to say goodbye to someone so deeply loved. We will feel his absence at family gatherings and in the quiet moments when we wish we could hear his voice, ask him a question, or share something about our day. Grief reminds us how much he meant to us, and we will face it together, finding comfort in one another and in our faith.
As we honor Ruben, we will carry his memory forward by caring for our family and making time for the simple joys he enjoyed. We will tell his stories so that future generations can know him through the people who loved him. His legacy will continue in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and in the lessons his life leaves with us.
Dad, thank you for the life you shared with us, for your hard work, and for the laughter that will forever be part of our memories. We wish we had more time, but we are grateful for every year, every gathering, and every ordinary day we had together. You will be deeply missed and always loved.
Forever in our hearts. Never forgotten. Until we meet again.
“I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” — John 16:33
