Rudolph "Rudy" Samudio Sr. was born on February 28, 1942 to parents Lupe and Rosie Samudio in Houston, Texas. He attended Austin Sr. High then went on to take classes at HCC in drafting. Rudy worked most of his life as a professional residential and commercial painter. The Samudio Paint Company was well-known in the greater Houston area. He changed careers from the painting business and finished out his career at Argo International where he served as a warehouse supervisor.
His main hobby was watching movies. He liked war movies and documentaries. He also had an appreciation for the classics such as the Ten Commandments, Samson & Delilah, and Jesus of Nazareth. He also enjoyed action movies such as Man on Fire, Training Day, and El Cid.
Rudy Samudio was a wonderful husband and dad. He coached baseball at the East End Little League for many years for both sons, Rudy Jr. and Anthony. His wife Lolly always served as the team mom and volunteered in the concession stand. He would recruit all the neighborhood kids in his area and would go to their houses to pick them up for practice in his truck because he knew they did not have a ride. All the kids loved playing for Rudy Sr. because they knew, win or lose he was buying everyone burgers after the games. Every Easter Sunday after church he would take his family to Hermann Park to meetup with family then take the kids to the zoo then back to the park for Easter egg hunts. When the children got older, they would go to Mason Park to play volley ball and barbeque. For Christmas, Rudy and Lolly Samudio would have house parties where they always made Margaritas and played Loteria with good music playing in the background such as Marvin Gaye, Al Green, and Grupo Mazz.
When Rudy lost his beloved wife Lolly back in 2015, his daily routine was to get up early, drive to McDonalds to order a large coffee, sausage and biscuit with two hash browns then drive to the cemetery to visit his wife with his folding chair and umbrella in tow. Some days he went twice to ensure the roses he planted had plenty of water and soil. He often referred to his wife Lolly as his rib in reference to Eve being created from one of Adam’s ribs in the Bible.
Rudy Samudio will be deeply missed by all who loved him. He was a great husband, father, Papo, brother, cousin, friend, and uncle. May God have mercy on his soul, bless him and give him eternal peace. As his grave marker states, until we are all together again.
