Sandy, Nel, and Boo - I love y'all! I regret that we didn't visit over the past few years, instead just keeping in touch with social media. Your dad was so awesome to us and taught us so much about "adulting". The world is a sadder place without him - BUT - he lives on in all of us and especially in the kids and the grandkids. He taught all of us how to be good humans and so made us all better people.

To the Cabellero and Valdez family, you have our deepest sympathy In the loss of your loved one.  Rudy will be truly missed. Rest in peace my friend.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to the Valdez family and to all Rudy's friends who are missing him now. When Phillip and I think of Rudy we will always think of his BIG, kind smile. We will cherish the times we were blessed to have spent with Rudy and Sandy.

Anyone that knew Rudy I'm sure have many great stories that they could tell about him.
 I recall a trip Anna and I took with Rudy, Sandy, and friends to Galveston Tx. At the end of our trip, as we were preparing for our departure and someone dumped hot coals in a wooded area across the street from where we were staying. The wind was high that day and it quickly turned into a towering flame that was spreading at a rapid pace. The water hose that we had available was not long enough to reach the fire. Everyone went into a panic thinking it would engulf the entire area. As I was running around looking for a phone to call for help, Rudy grabs a towel,l soaks it with water and tells me "don't worry I got this". As he completely disappears bare footed into the smoke and flames, I'm thinking this guy has lost his mind and this is the last time I'll see my friend.
 Just as I find my phone and ready to dial 911, I look across the street and to my amazement the flames have been completely extinguished. Before the smoke has time to clear Rudy emerges with a little stride in his walk, like he sometimes does when he knows he nailed it, cover in soot carrying a smoldering wet towel.
 When Anna and I last went to see Rudy at his bedside in the hospitable, when I enter the room Sandy tells him Bruce is here. He opens his eyes a little and struggles to lift his hand to shake mine. As I place my hand on top of his I'm trying to hold back my emotions. Unable to speak he looks at me as if to say "don't worry I got this".
 It is not often in life you find a friend as special as Rudy. I know in my heart when my flames of life finally burn out, Rudy will again emerge from the lingering smoke and tell me, as he has many times before, "come on brother-in-law, grab a pole I found a good fishing hole and I've saved you a good spot'. 

 We can not express how much we will miss our brother-in-law, Rudy Valdez, but he will always be our family, friend, and in our hearts.

Rudy, my brother and the best friend anyone could ever have. My mind is full of great memories. They will never be erased, thank you for always watching my back. Thank you for being my brother in fires, I know you always watched over me during our fight to fight fires and saving lives. You lived a great life with great values. You will ne missed. Rudy I want to THANK YOU for everything you have ever done for me and Joe Hector throughout our friendship.  I always considered you my big brother even before I lost Joe Hector to cancer.  And as my big brother you did not fail in stepping up as one of my many protectors, being there when I needed advice, when I needed that blueberry muffin or an umbrella for the rain.  A GENTLEMAN like you are far and in between, and I'm glad that GOD put you in my path.   I always admired you strength in own your battle and hope that I was there when you needed me.  I LOVE YOU GREATLY!!! and I'm going to miss you more   Tell my Diva I love him too, and take it easy on those winding roads when you go riding on that glorious Harley with Joe Hector by your side.
