Rueben Frank Mahlmann, age 87, died on Thursday, July 5, 2018, in Houston, Texas. Born in Welcome, Texas on November 10, 1930. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dorothy Faye Hartfiel Mahlmann; son Jeff Mahlmann and wife Lisa Mahlmann; son Ron Mahlmann; daughter Gina Riley and brother Dennis Mahlmann.
Has was the proud grandfather of Curtis Mahlmann, David Mahlmann, Carson Riley and Kate Riley. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. Rueben was preceded in death by his parents George and Otillie Mahlmann: sister, Bernice Mahlmann; infant daughter Rita Ann Mahlmann; sister-in-law Verdell Mahlmann and great niece Taylor Mahlmann.
He was the youngest of three children; brother, Dennis Mahlmann and sister, Bernice Mahlmann. As a young child, he attended the local Welcome Texas School.
Rueben was baptized on January 25, 1931 and confirmed that faith on December 17, 1944 at Salem Lutheran Church at Welcome, Texas. Rueben became a member of Zion Lutheran Church in 1960 and remained a member until his death. He participated in the Men in Mission organization and the Usher Team.
He moved to Houston as a young man to become a machinist for Ethylene Gulf Coast Machine Shop for 38 years. In his retirement years, he spent many hours cutting hair at a local barbershop.
Rueben’s hobbies and interests were working on cars and rebuilding large diesel motors. His other hobbies were fishing and camping. In support of this, he served as Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 82 of Zion Lutheran Church.
His favorite pastime was studying the bible and sharing the good news.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Zion Lutheran Church to support the Staff Singers.
