Russell Dunlap Pipkin, known as Rusty by his close friends and family, passed away on Tuesday, the 11th of March. Rusty had a unique ability to connect with others, leaving behind a legacy of love, friendship, and countless memories. His infectious enthusiasm and fun-loving spirit lit up the world around him.
Rusty graduated from Robert E. Lee High School. He attended the University of Texas at Austin, where he was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity, proudly upholding a strong family tradition as a Longhorn. He then returned to Houston to attend the University of Houston, and upon graduating he began his career and started his cherished family. With his charismatic personality and talent for building relationships, Rusty worked in business development in his family’s mortgage business.
Rusty was known for his sense of humor. He had an exceptional ability to make everyone laugh, often at the most unexpected times. His humor kept everyone entertained at countless celebrations and gatherings. Rusty also enjoyed the water—whether he was fishing, kayaking, tending to his fish tank or simply hanging out with friends at the beach. His love of all animals was a testament to his kind and gentle spirit.
Rusty is survived by his daughter, Ryan Lane Pipkin, whom he lovingly called “Angel.” She was the light of his life—his greatest joy and source of happiness. He was so proud of her and all that she has become, he loved and adored her. He is also survived by his mother, Sara Jo Pipkin; his brother, Roger Wilbarger Pipkin IV; his sister, Sara Evans Christ; his brother-in-law, Charles Michael Christ; his nieces, Madeline Evans Christ and Sara Elizabeth Christ; and his former wife and lifelong friend, Kathryn Johnson Pipkin, who remained a constant source of support. Rusty is preceded in death by his father, Roger Wilbarger Pipkin III, with whom he shared an extraordinary bond.
Although we mourn the loss of Rusty—a loving father, brother, son, and friend—we find comfort in knowing he has been reunited with his father in eternal rest and peace. May his memory inspire us to live each day fully and embrace life’s joys. Rusty will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched. Rest in peace, Rusty—your love, laughter, and light will never be forgotten.
