Ruth Evelyn Archer Blalock went to be with her Lord on August 6, 2014. Ruth is survived by her husband, William Ben Blalock Jr. who was a former mayor of Huntsville Texas, daughter Evie Ruth Blalock Darlan and son-in-law Michael E. Darlan of Spring, Texas, son William Ben Blalock III of Laramie Wyoming. She had four grandchildren, Michael Chad Darlan and Krista Renae Darlan of Magnolia Texas, Bonnie Blalock of Rock Springs Wyoming, and Courtney Blalock of Denver Colorado.
On May 15, 1925, Ruth was born to Norman Bolivar and Evelyn Archer in Riverside, Texas which is very close to the city of Huntsville, Texas. Both Ruth and her husband’s families have lived and worked in that area for many generations, so that is where she will be returned to, in a special family section of the Adickes Addition of Oakwood Cemetery on August 23, 2014 at 2:00 PM.
Ruth attended Sam Houston State University, graduated with an English major and taught before getting married to her husband of almost 64 years. She was very active in the First Baptist Church of Huntsville with many functions, but mostly remembered for being the Director of the Girls Auxiliary and playing the organ for the church.
Ruth was a woman with an extreme dedication to Jesus Christ and his church. Even when future medical issues limited her involvement, she was a prayer warrior for all in need and continued to immerse herself in the Word of the Lord. She loved all of her Champion Forest Baptist Church brothers and sisters, and she had a special appreciation of Pastor Jeff Schreve of Texarkana, Texas. Her love and concern for her family and others will always be a testament of her faith and life. She loved going to watch her grandson play sports or listening to the talented musical efforts of her grand-daughters. She was most definitely a Texas woman who had her own opinion and wasn’t intimidated by anyone, but had that soft side that allowed her to love deeply.
On the lighter side, she was a major Dallas Cowboys fan, who knew the names of the players along with their statistics, though that might have been due to the influence of her husband Ben. Upon moving to Houston, Texas in the early 1980’s, her family thinks she became a Houston Oiler’s and then a Houston Texan’s fan, though that cannot be confirmed.
The family of Ruth Blalock wishes to extend a very special thank you to all the kind folks at Champion Forest Baptist Church, Magnolia Heights Assisted Living, and Brookside Funeral Home Champions.
