Born on the 8th of September 1942, in Chicago, Illinois to Ruth and William Elmer, Ruth Ann attended Southern Methodist University where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. While there she met her future husband, Kenneth W. Dusek. They were married on the 20th of June 1964 in Owensboro, Kentucky and they enjoyed 53 years together. They had two children and enjoyed a very full life in Houston.
As a young mother, Ruth Ann was mentored by Alliene Vale. Alliene was very influential in Ruth Ann’s life and this relationship led to her opening up her home weekly to countless friends for Bible study and for children’s flannel board Bible teaching. The first of these groups was a women’s Bible study that met for almost 15 years.
Upon joining CEPC Ruth Ann really flourished. She started a group that met for dinner and Bible study. This group has continued to meet on Sunday night for over 22 years. When the church wanted to begin small community group studies Ruth Ann offered her home again for a group to meet on Tuesday nights, this group has faithfully met for 15 years. On Mondays she taught Bible study to Japanese women whose husbands had come to Houston for work. She attended a great Bible study with friends on Thursdays. Her greatest gift was mentoring young wives and teaching them how to love their husbands.
Ruth Ann was a friend and mentor to many people. Her home was always open to host a Bible study, a wedding or baby shower, a week night dinner or to pray with a friend.
Her family gives thanks for all of the support and prayers of her many friends.
She is survived by her husband, Ken Dusek; son, Mike Dusek ; son, Mark Dusek and his wife Carol; grandchildren, Lacee, Sarah, Philip, Stephen and Luke and brother, Bill Elmer and his wife Shari.
A memorial service and celebration of her life is to be conducted at twelve o’clock noon on Friday, the 6th of October, at Christ Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 8300 Katy Freeway, in Houston. As the need arises, additional parking will be available in the adjacent Home Depot parking lot.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that gifts of remembrance be directed to Christ Evangelical Presbyterian Church Missions.
