Ms. Ruth Fendley passed away peacefully at the age of 85 in Sugar Land, TX on November 14, 2018. Ruth was born in Jackson, MS August 31, 1933 where she attended and graduated from Central High School. After marrying in 1955, she moved to Houston, TX where she made her home for 21 years. During that time, she gave birth to one daughter, Donna. She returned to Jackson for a brief period and upon remarrying and the birth of her first grandchild, she moved back to TX where she spent the remainder of her life. Over the years, Ruth was employed with several companies, with the last 15 years spent at Clayton Foundation for Research from which she retired at the age of 71.
Ruth was blessed with varied interests throughout the years. She could play piano by ear and would entertain many with her beautiful voice. When she and her brother Hunter got together, there was always singing and dancing! Ruth was the baby of six children born, and it was always great fun watching them interact with one another. As one of her nephews put it, “She was the FUN Aunt!” Along with music, she loved to read, enjoyed politics, and was a follower of Dr. Charles Stanley every Sunday morning. Decorating was another of her talents, and she had a definite knack for it. Perhaps her greatest gift and talent, however, was her deep love for her family, her zest for life, and making everyone she encountered feel special.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents Aletha and Hunter Robinson Moore, husbands John Douglas Gambrell and E. M. Fendley, sisters Aletha Parks and Jeanette Allen, and brothers Bobby and David Moore.
She is survived by her brother Hunter Ray Moore and his wife Lilly, as well as her sister-in-law and friend Marie Moore. Ruth is also survived by her daughter Donna Evans and her husband Robert, grandchildren Jennifer Lyle and her husband Robert, Robert “Trey” Evans, III, and Ryan Evans and his wife Kelly, as well as great-grandchildren Annabell Faith and Ronald Dean Lyle, and numerous nieces and nephews whom she adored.
