

On April 14, 1918 a beautiful baby girl was born to Ellis and Willie May Raglan in Shiro, Texas. She was lovingly named Ruth Mae King. She is affectionately called “Mother Ruth, and “The OG (the original gangster) by the young people in the family.
Ruth moved to Houston, Texas in the nineteen forties where she met and married Granderson King. To this union no children were born. She had one daughter,who she called her one little lamb, Annie Laura Lewis. Annie preceded her in death.
She had a primary education, however she trained to be a nurses aide and she worked as a nurse aide at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Houston’s Fifth Ward for many years. Later she worked for “HISD” the Houston Independent School District, as a cafeteria assistant. She retired from HISD after forty years of service .After retirement she became an integral part of the Kashmere Garden senior program.
Ruth, loved the Lord, and became a faithful member of St. John Missionary Baptist church for over sixty years. She loved music, and played in the orchestra at St. John. She loved her St. John’s family. She was the oldest “Mother of the church” at 103 years old. She always put God first, and she always offered a hand shake, and a smile to everyone.
She leaves to mourn one sister, Josephine Raglan Evans, and a host of other relatives. She will be very much missed.
