

Sally was a graduate of Fitch Senior High School Class of 1956, a former student of St. Joseph’s College, and an alumnus of the University of Connecticut Class of 1961. Sally also earned her master’s in education from SUNY-Cortland Class of 1979.
She began her teaching career at Clark Middle School in Waterford, CT, and she concluded her teaching career at Cardinal Spellman Elementary School in Omaha, NE. In 1981, she faithfully served as Director of Religious Education at the Capehart Chapel located at Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha, NE. Moving east, she continued her work in Niantic, CT and then moving south to Smyrna, GA. Furthering her education, she received her Master of Administration from Boston College in 1997. This brought her to her final Director of Religious Education (DRE) in Belmont, MA.
Sally married the love of her life James R. “Jimmy” Wight in June of 1961. He was a member of the United States Air Force, and they lived in many places stateside as well as in England. They raised three loving daughters and had six wonderful grandchildren together. Sally had such a special love for her family with a big heart that was unconditional, especially for her grandchildren. Holidays were always a special occasion at the Wight household, with family gathering together and playing games, tasting treasured recipes, and sharing lots of laughs.
After retiring in 2002, she moved to Waterford, CT and Houston, TX with her husband. The couple volunteered at Prince of Peace’s food pantry, befriending many other churchgoers and attending senior lunches together. The couple were avid UCONN sports fans, with Sally becoming a big fan of Astros baseball after moving to Texas.
After the passing of her beloved husband, Jimmy, Sally finally settled in Spring, TX. She spent many days in retirement testing her culinary skills with new recipes to share, piecing together puzzles with her grandchildren, walking her precious dog Cognac, and going on bucket list vacations with family.
Sally is survived by her daughter Beth (and husband Matthew) Muyskens of Houston; granddaughter Morgan Muyskens (and husband Lee “Max”) Scafidi of New Orleans, LA; granddaughter Lillie Muyskens of Houston; grandson Ethan Muyskens of Austin.
Daughter Jena (and husband Gregory) West of Colebrook, CT; grandson Aaron (and wife Melissa) West of Houston; grandson Zachary West of Brooklyn, NY; grandson Garrett West of Washington, D.C.
Daughter Gretel Wight-Redmond (and husband Travis Redmond) of Porter; Trent (and wife Cheyenne) Redmond of Spring; Ryan Redmond of Spring.
The funeral will be at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Houston on April 17th. A reception will follow the mass. Interment will be at the Houston National Cemetery.
