Sam La Porte

Sam LaPorte, 92, passed away on January 26, 2014. Sam was born in Jeanerette, Louisiana in 1921. In 1947, Sam married Rose Marie Tilotta. Sam cared lovingly for Rose until her death in 1999, also on January 26th. Sam is also preceded in death by his brother, Joe La Porte; dear sisters, Mae LaPorte Tilotta and Madeline LaCorte Ferreri; and brother-in-law, Sam Tilotta.

Sam is survived by his son, Joseph Anthony and wife Anna Marie, daughter Sara LaPorte Griffin, granddaughter Megan Elizabeth Griffin and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Sam was a kind gentle man who cared deeply, not only for his family, friends and neighbors, but also for his pet cats. He was known as a soft touch for neighborhood cats and would often feed and shelter strays.

He will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Methodist Hospital-Sugarland and Chelsea Gardens Home for their kind and loving care.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 29, 2014, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. in the Hunters Creek Chapel at Earthman Funeral Directors, 8303 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77024. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 30, 2014, at St. Cyril Catholic Church, 10503 Westheimer Road. The pallbearers will be Joe Canalito, Jr., William Hegge, Anthony Ruffino, Carl Ruffino and Charles Howard. Immediately following, a graveside service will take place at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery, 12800 Westheimer Road.
