Sam was my boss at VALIC for a number of years before he retired.  I can truly say that I learned more working for him than from anyone else I worked for during my career.  Although he was all business and focused on getting the job done in the best way, he was a good friend and mentor who provided good advice that helped me move forward in my career.  He was very supportive to all of the people who worked for him.  I know he will be missed by many people who truly got to know him.  My prayers are with his partner and family.

Sam was my first manager at Prudential in 1973 and my boss at VALIC many years later.  He had a gift of always making me believe that I could achieve my dreams.  In my own management career I shared many of the pearls of wisdom I learned from Sam with others.  Even though I did not see Sam after he retired from VALIC, he will always have a special place in my heart.  Ron, you and Sam's sisters are in my prayers.

Sam was my dear business friend.  I owe so much  to Sam for his support and caring during my years at Prudential and VALIC. There are no words to describe my feelings for Sam.  They are very special and will be in my heart forever. No one will ever know how his support helped me and my family.  My thoughts go to his partner and his family.  I know he will be missed.

Sam is one of many folks who led AG/VALIC to the company it was back in the 80s and 90s.  Memorable times.

Sam was a good friend for many years.  I worked with and for him at both Prudential and American General.  We had many varied discussions over the years and I will never forget our discussion on genealogy. He was fun to be around and will be missed.

I loved Sam.  He taught me to ballroom dance when we were teenagaers.  I loved
his smile. Will miss you dear cousin!

I worked for Sam at VALIC during the 90's. As a leader, he gave people room to grow and knew how to nudge things along and coach when people needed help. I still talk about things he taught me to this day (I used one in the last few weeks). He could also be outrageously funny. My sympathy to his family and friends.

Sam was a long time Houston friend whom I hadn't seen since the 70's.  We had some phone contact, but unfortunately  our lives went in different directions.

I, too, worked with Sam at Prudential. He was a great boss, a wonderful mentor and a super friend. Although we had not seen each other in years, I thought of him often and I will miss him. My prayers go to Ron and his family.

Sam was my dancing partner in high school.  We took dancing from Martha Coatsworth and then taught some of the younger kids.  He was always fun loving and great to be around.  I have thought of hime fondly over the years.

Sam was a dear friend to me and my wife, Jenny, for over 40 years. We worked with him at Prudential and American General.  As a gifted manager, he was a blessing to so many that worked for and with him.
