

Bryant who preceded her in death. She was the third of eight children born to their
union. After the death of their father, the family moved to Humble, Texas in September
of 1944. They united with St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church and became a part of the
family of St. Luke. Samatha was baptized on July 16, 1948 by the late Rev. M.O. Bell. She
attended Sunday School, BTU, worked with youth and eventually adults. She was active
in church. She served in various capacities including as a Sunday School teacher, choir
secretary, mission secretary, mission president, church clerk, choir member, and trustee.
On July 15, 2012 she committed to the ministry at Wings Over Jordan. Her servanthood
within the Body of Christ expands over fifty-seven years.
Johnnie Truscott met and married Samatha. They were married for over sixty years and
raised six beautiful children. They include Lonell (Donna), Larry, Vanessa Diane, Danny
Michael (deceased), Deidre (Claude), Benita (Daniel), and John (Leah).
For nearly thirty years, she worked as the account manager of British Airways for the
Marriott Corporation. She made and maintained lasting friendships as she traveled in the
US and abroad. After retiring, she spent time with her granddaughter before accepting a
position at Lone Star College where she worked for another nine years.
Samatha made civic engagement a priority. She worked in the community with Vista
Works during the 3-H Service Center entrance to the community and was a member of
the board as well as secretary. She taught her children the value of voting and encouraged
them to contribute to their communities and society.
Her loving siblings include: Fannie Mae (deceased), Jimmie Lee (Clifton), Ella C. Hubbard
(John-deceased), Dan (Elizabeth), Joe Louis (Loreatha-deceased), Ruby Helen (Roger-
deceased) and Betty J. Bryant. In addition to her siblings and children, she leaves 10
grandchildren (LaShonda and Marcus-deceased), 15 great grandchildren, 4 great, great
grandchildren and a host of surrogate children who called her mom, and many cousins,
nieces, nephews, and friends.
