

His family moved to Giza where he spent most of his childhood and adolescence.
His family consists of his wife, Adreya, who died in 2020 after 68 years of marriage, sons Wadie and wife Hoda, Wail and wife Kate, grandchildren Basil, Tammer and wife Irene, and Baheya, and great grandchildren Basil, Fairouz, and Yasmine. His family also includes nephews and nieces, Estefans, Nosshis, Michels, Eldiwanys, Malatys and Riads.
He was the last of his generation in both the Malaty and Estefan(wife’s) families and represents the end of an era that has spanned nearly a century.
He obtained a BS in Chemical Engineering from Cairo University in the early 1950s. He was a brilliant student, and graduated top of his class. He obtained a PhD in Chemical Engineering from Imperial College in London, England in 1956. He spent his early career in Alexandria and Cairo. He moved with his family to Kuwait in 1967, where he worked for the national oil company until he moved to the US in 1975. He spent 25 years at Bechtel Corporation in various positions culminating as regional vice president in the Middle East. He spent much of his career on assignments in Malaysia, Morocco, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, and Egypt. He travelled extensively throughout the world.
Samir had a brilliant mind, great soul, and kind heart. He had a quiet dignity that inspired love and admiration in all those who met him. He gave generously of his heart, love, wisdom, time and money to all those in need. He volunteered at an assistance ministry. He always advocated for the poor and needy.
After a prolonged illness, and per his wishes, he died at home under hospice care. His death was peaceful and painless, and he was surrounded by his loving family. He will always be in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
Funeral prayers will be held at St. Mary and Archangel Michael Coptic Church, 7030 Lake Haven Dr., Houston, TX 77095 on Friday May 31 at 12:00 pm.
The family will receive condolences at the Hall of St. Mark Coptic Orthodox Church, 424 Mulberry Ln, Bellaire, TX 77401 on Friday May 31 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.
