

Sammy Dyer was born April 12, 1938 in Houston, TX to Willie & CleoPatra Dyer. He attended HISD and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. Sammy enjoyed restoring antique furniture and reading.
Sammy accepted Christ into his life at an early age and was a member of Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Under the leadership of Rev. S. B. Parker, he served as a Deacon, Trustee, Financial Secretary, Chairman of the Souvenir Booklet Committee and sung in the Male Chorus. Under the leadership of Rev. Curtis C. Lewis, Sammy, was Chairman of the church Banquet Committee. He proudly served as the President of the Booker T. Alumni for many years and later served as Vice President until his death.
Sammy worked for Champion Paper Mill in Pasadena, TX which later became Simpson Paper Mill where he retired.
On September 1, 1959 he married Ruby M. Adams. To this union, four children was born: one daughter, Roletha and three sons: Trevor, Stedman and Avery.
Sammy lived a wonderful life and on that very unexpected day, March 11, 2021, Sammy was called home to glory. He is preceded in death by his parents Willie & Cleo Dyer, his siblings: Lucille Jamison, Freddie Dyer, O.B. Dyer and great-grandson Bryson Grier.
Sammy leaves to cherish his precious memories: his loving wife Ruby; four children and their spouses: Roletha Williams (Bobby), Trevor Dyer, Stedman Dyer, Avery Dyer (Laura); five grandchildren: Brittnee Dyer, Bethany Grier (Brandon), Asaiah Dyer, Ariana Dyer, and Cullen Dyer; four great-grandchildren: Brandon Grier Jr., Phillip Kent IV, Phabian Kent, and Braylon Grier; one brother Ernest Dyer; a devoted God son, Don Williams and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
