Sammy was born in Houston, Texas on October 1, 1941, to Preston and Birdie Propes, both of whom preceded him in death. He graduated from Aldine High School, and honorably served his country in the United States Army, both in active and reserve duty, from 1963 to 1969. After a whirlwind courtship, Sammy married his one true love, Dorothy, in 1967. They were happily married and devoted to each other for 49 years. Sammy and Dorothy had one son, Greg, who Sammy loved and cherished. Sammy worked for Solvay Polymers for 35 years, retiring in 2002 as a supervisor. He earned the respect of everyone who worked with him.
Sammy is survived by Dorothy, his son Greg and daughter-in-law Stefanie, his grandchildren Ben, Abby Grace and Charlotte, his brother Stephen and sister-in-law Francine, his sisters Terri and Wendy, and many nieces and nephews. Sammy was a doting grandfather to his grandchildren, who meant the world to him. Sammy never missed an opportunity to tell his family that he loved them.
