

He is survived by his wife, Minnie; sons: Sammy, Robert, Rick, and Roy; his daughter, Diane, as well as, 21 grandchildren, 35 great-grand children, and 3 great-great-grandchildren; and 5 siblings: Esther, Daniel, Francis, Leonard and David. Sam’s parents were Leonardo Vera and Marcella Vera.
Sam had three major career phases throughout his life. His early career included building an automotive- wholesale parts enterprise and later new-retail parts. He was a leader in early Hispanic-owned businesses in Houston.
Sam later joined the City of Houston METRO org. - establishing himself as a hard-working problem solver. He formed and was president of the League of United Latin American Citizens (LUAC) chapter at METRO. He achieved many awards and achieved journeyman-level certification in a number of areas. After retiring from METRO, Sam returned to his passion for running and owning a business by building up a successful property company - Vera Properties. Sam identified properties, lead the rehabilitation - many times with hands on repairs - and built a portfolio of residential and commercial property.
Sam placed the most importance on building love and values that would sustain his family. Sam constantly provided help for families and those in need and provided unlimited forgiveness. For his children - he provided constant guidance, direction, coaching and endless love.
Family will receive friends and family for visitation on Friday, December 8, 2017 from 2:00 to 8:00PM at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Fwy, Houston, TX 77039, with the memorial service held at 6:00 PM. On Saturday, December 9, 2017 at 9:00 AM there will be a service followed by the burial.
A reception to follow at El Tiempo Cantina, 3130 Richmond Ave., Houston, TX, 77098, starting at 12 p.m.
