

Mary Sandra Durrett, age 79, went to be with her Lord on the 20th of April 2021. She was born the 13th of February, in Houston, Texas to Howard Lee, Sr. and Molly Stokes Lee. Sandra graduated from Lamar High School in Houston in 1960. Sandra had many loves in her life and teaching was one of them. Teaching was Sandra’s passion, her life, and her love. She went on to pursue her dream of being teacher after graduating from Baylor University in 1964 with a Bachelor of Education. Sandra spent over 35 years living out her dream teaching at various grade levels.
Sandra loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and was a faithful and active member of South Main Baptist Church for much of her life and was an active participant in South Main’s International Learning Experience or SMILE program. Sandra went on to become an active member of Sugar Creek Baptist Church where she spent many years teaching First Grade Sunday School. Later in life she became and active member of Sugar Land Baptist Church.
Sandra was passionate about many things in life, but nothing compared to her love of football. She was a loyal and ardent fan of her Baylor Bears as well as her hometown team the Houston Oilers and Houston Texans.
Sandra’s most prized possession in life was her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, wife, sister, and dedicated friend to many. She was loved and cherished by everyone and will be greatly missed.
Sandra is survived by her three children and their spouses, Larry and Rochelle Chaloupka of Austin, Molly and Kelly McRae of Carmel, CA., and Diane and Joseph Bonnin of Richmond; five grandchildren, Elizabeth and Ryan McRae; Maggie Chaloupka; and Presley and Jason Bonnin.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband James H. Durrett, Jr.; her parents Howard and Molly Lee; her stepmother Sarah Lee Cole; and her brother and sister-in-law Howard and Patty Lee.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six o'clock until eight o'clock in the evening on Friday, the 30th of April, in the library and grand foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
A memorial service is to be conducted at eleven o'clock in the morning on Saturday, the 1st of May, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive, in Houston officiated by Dr. Greg Funderburk. Guests may also view the service via a livestream by clicking "Join Livestream" below.Due to Covid-19 there will be no reception following the memorial service.
Prior to the memorial service, the family will have gathered for a private family interment at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery.
In lieu of the customary remembrances and for those so desiring, a memorial donation may be made to South Main Baptist SMILE Foundation.
