Our beloved mother, Sandra Lee Reeves, passed away on January 20, 2026 at the age of 84, leaving behind a legacy of curiosity, devotion, and purposeful living. She was a constant learner, always searching for new information, new perspectives, and a deeper understanding of the world around her.
Sandy found joy in many pursuits, such as taking dance lessons at Patsy Swayze’s studio in Oak Forest, joining the Redcoats at Reagan High School, and cheerleading at St. Pius. At Sam Houston State University, it became evident that she was a multifaceted young woman with a variety of interests which led her to earn a degree in both math and Spanish. While there, she took the opportunity to study abroad in the vibrant city of Puebla, Mexico to advance her academic, linguistic and cultural knowledge. After graduating, she taught at Waltrip High School for a few years but left to become a teacher to her family for a lifetime, instilling values, sharing knowledge, and leading by example every single day.
The piano bench was definitely her happy place. Having taught herself to read classical music at a young age, she filled our home with music which inspired all of us to pursue an instrument and add a few notes of our own. Over the years, she gave generously of her time as a Campfire Girls leader, guiding others with patience, encouragement, and care. In her free time, she enjoyed playing tennis, scrapbooking and antique shopping. As an avid reader with a special passion for American history, she was always eager to learn and share what she discovered. Additionally, she enjoyed spending time with friends and family playing dominoes, Scrabble, and other board games where she found happiness in both activity and togetherness.
She lived by a simple but powerful philosophy: have a purpose every day, apply yourself, and be productive. She often reminded her family to stay engaged, to keep learning, and to make each day meaningful. She never slowed down, never stopped learning, and never stopped encouraging those around her to be their best.
Above all, she was a devoted wife and a dedicated and loving mother. On Sept. 20, 1963 she married her neighbor and friend of many years, Jerry, spending over 62 wonderful years together. Her influence will live on through the lessons she taught, the curiosity she inspired, and the love she gave so freely. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, Maurice and Dorothy Jones; her parents-in-law, Ellsworth and Addie Reeves; and her brother Thomas (Tommy) Jones.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry; her daughter Terri Rasmussen and husband John; her son Kenneth and wife, Pamela; her daughter Cyndi Reynolds and husband David; her brother-in-law Jim Reeves and wife Susan; her grandchildren, Brandon Rasmussen, Aidan and Evan Reynolds.
Our family extends heartfelt thanks to two dear, compassionate long term family friends, Jamie Jansen and Donna Raines, who helped with her care and gave our family support.
