

She lived in Houston from 1922, attending Montrose Elementary, Poe Elementary, Lanier Middle School and graduated from San Jacinto High School in 1926. After high school, she attended Holton-Arms School in Washington, DC, where she won the school art prize for her drawing of the Holton-Arms front entrance and was named “Society Girl of the Day” by the Washington Times newspaper.
While studying in our nation’s capital, Sara attended the 2nd Inauguration of Franklin D. Roosevelt and was able to have tea at the White House, hosted by Mrs. Roosevelt. Upon graduating from Holton-Arms, Sara enrolled at The University of Texas at Austin, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta, Nu Upsilon Tau Tau and was a Bluebonnet Belle.
At UT, Sara met her future husband, Thomas F. Taylor, and they would be married for 69 1/2 years. Sara was a Life Member of the Ex-Students Association at The University of Texas and served as a reporter for the Houston Texas Exes. One of her greatest thrills was being able to light the tower “orange” not only once but twice when Texas beat Rice and SMU in football.
Sara was a member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, Lakeside Country Club, San Jacinto Alumnae Association, Kappa Alpha Theta Alumnae Association, Patron of the Junior League of Houston, the last surviving member of the Sewing Club and a former member of The Houston Club and The Colony.
Preceded in death by her husband Thomas F. Taylor, Sr., her loving parents Minnie & Don Cave, and her adored son Thomas F. Taylor, Jr. and son-in-law Ned Gill, Jr.
She is survived by daughter Judy Taylor Ewing and her husband Lee Ewing, son Don Cave Taylor, daughter-in-law Linda Taylor, granddaughter Allison Taylor, grandsons Richard Christopher “Chris” Gill and Brian Taylor Gill and his wife Paige Prestridge Gill, great-granddaughter Sara Makenzie Gill and great-grandson Andrew Hudson Gill. Step grand-children Ned Gill, III and Jennifer Gill Erwin and her husband, David; step great-grandchildren David Andrew Erwin, Julia Erwin, Grant Gill and Sarah Gill; Mehrnaz Gill and cousins Cindi Crabtree and Tom Carter Jr & family.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from four o’clock in the afternoon until six o’clock in the evening on Sunday, the 16th of April, in the parlor of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
A graveside service is to be conducted at one o’clock in the afternoon on Monday, the 17th of April at Forest Park Westheimer Road in Houston, where the Rev. Dr. Tom Pace, Senior Pastor at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church is to officiate.
In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions may be directed to St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 3471 Westheimer Road, Houston, Texas 77027.
