Sara graduated with highest honors and valedictorian from Morven H.S. Quitman, Georgia. She married Truman L. Walker Jr. (USMC) and had three boys. They divorced and Sara raised her three sons on her own with help from mom, sister Grace and two brothers Richard and David, in Houston, Texas.
Sara had a gift for numbers and worked in the accounting department of Herman Hospital for several years. She moved into a position with A.L Hogan and Associates and Universal Electric & Construction Co. as a bookkeeper. Sara stayed with the company until it was sold. She continued her career with Brooks Collier Architects and then Bob Brooks until she retired to spend more time with her grandchildren and her great grandchildren. Sara always had a deep love of baseball sharing the same birthdate with the great Willie Mayes. She always found time to get us to the ball park (old Colt45 stadium) and the Astrodome. Sara loved music especially opera, she shared her love of music with her boys. She was a voracious reader and encouraged us to do the same and look to books for answers to many of our questions. She always offered a helping hand for everyone, always giving of herself.
She is survived by her sons Reid (Muriel) Walker, Robert Dale (Pamela) Walker , & Evans Walker; sister Grace (McGhee) Walker, brothers David McGhee, Richard (Joyce) McGhee; 4 nieces, 4 nephews, 4 grandchildren, with numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren: Predeceased by her parents and brother Tom McGee.
Services will be held at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral, Houston on Friday August 16,2019 at 2:00 pm with fellowship to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to support the Salvation Army.
