Sarah Anne Spinks Suddreath passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, December 30, 2017. Born September 3, 1943 to Lee and Patsy Spinks in Shreveport, LA, she grew up in New Orleans where she graduated from Ursuline Academy. After moving with her family to Texas, she attended the University of Houston, majoring in elementary education. It was there Sarah met Rick Suddreath, first exchanging words during a bridge game, an encounter that ultimately led to marriage. Together they raised four children and enjoyed bridge, bowling and, most especially, dancing for the next 36 years.
Rick's work took them to Kansas briefly but they returned to Texas in 1976, settling in Katy, where she resided for 41 years. An avid bridge player and bowler, she was active in several groups and leagues through which she formed her deepest and cherished friendships. As an original member of Epiphany of the Lord Catholic Community, she shared proudly in its growth to the thriving parish it is today. Sarah thoroughly enjoyed baking, testing recipes from Bon Appétit and Southern Living and sharing them with her eagerly awaiting family and friends. She was fiercely proud of her Irish heritage and possessed an uncanny ability to spot four leaf clovers, a trait shared only by her beloved granddaughter. To those who visited her home, she was known for her vast collection of all things "owl". Sarah was a thoughtful, kind and selfless soul, always willing to put the needs of others before her own. Above all else, she was a devoted wife and mother, roles she considered her life's work. She was immensely proud of her children and absolutely adored her three grandchildren.
Sarah is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Rick, and her brothers Nick Spinks and Jeff Spinks. She is survived by her son Chris Beckett; her daughter Sarah Suddreath Stephens and husband Marc; her daughter Leigh Anne Suddreath Pierce and husband John; her son Kirk Suddreath and partner Shelley Buschur; grandsons Andrew and Alex Pierce and granddaughter Betsy Pierce. Sarah is also survived by her brother Walter Spinks and wife Susan; sister-in-law Mary Spinks; sister-in-law Portia Sweet; sister-in-law Jane Kirk; as well as many other relatives.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, January 8, 2018 at 11:00am at the Epiphany of the Lord Catholic Church, 1530 Norwalk, Katy, TX. A visitation will be held one hour prior at the church. A rite of committal will follow on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in Ruston, LA at Greenwood Cemetery.
