Sarmishtha Bhattacharjee

Sarmishtha (Rini) Bhattacharjee, wife of Subir Bhattacharjee and mother of Ritvik and Ritika Bhattacharjee, passed away on Giving Tuesday, November 28th, 2017, after a long battle against cancer. An ardent lover of music and science, she encouraged those around her to pursue their own passions; her two masters degrees in biophysics and genetics led to an inspiring teaching career at Richland College. She led by example, and shared her love with others through school and community volunteering programs. She was named volunteer of the year numerous times by Katy ISD, and spent several hundred hours each year in service for others. Her love for children made her the favorite aunty of many, and her passion for cooking comforted others. She was a scientist, a teacher, an artist, a dedicated wife, and a loving mother. But beyond all else, she was a giver. She taught us that love and compassion bring out the best in all, and that empathy is the greatest gift. We were blessed to have her with us, and we are blessed to have her watching over us. May her soul become part of the light and joy she brought to everyone around her.
