Savera Lucy Sicola Lewis, 86, passed away at home on Tuesday, February 4th, 2020. She was the only daughter and second child born to Bernice & Philip Sicola on March 9, 1933 in Houston, Texas. Savera is preceeded in death by her parents, Bernice Cotrone Sicola and Phillip Sicola, brother Vincent Sicola and sister-in-law Shirley Sicola.
Most of her fondest memories were being raised in a large extended Italian family surrounded by many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Being raised in the Catholic Church and attending Catholic School through high school, she was faithful to her religion throughout her life. Savera attended Incarnate Word Academy where she was involved in many extracurricular activities and a cheerleader at St. Thomas High School. During her time in Catholic School, she met her lifelong best friends, whom she loved dearly and maintained close relationships with them throughout their lives. Savera loved telling stories of her childhood days, experiences that shaped and molded her coming from a large Italian family, and the way things used to be.
For her children and grandchildren, she was more than a parent and more than a grandparent. She was a great teacher and role model to have, not only for her family but for everybody she knew. She loved being a parent and grandparent; it was her true calling in life. From raising her own children and then helping with her grandchildren, she was known to be the person to turn to when you needed the secret hacks of life and walking into her home brought a sense of peace and comfort to anyone who entered. She taught the value of continuing and passing family traditions down and was proud of her Italian heritage, which will live on as part of her legacy.
She will sadly be missed by her husband, Aubrey Lamar Lewis, who she was married to for 39 years. Her loving children, whom she devoted her entire life to, daughter Leanne and husband, Benny Goodwin, son Samuel Schillaci, daughter, Bonnie and husband Jeff Glover and son John Schillaci and wife, Lisa. She had 7 grandchildren, who knew her only by MawMaw – Natalie Schillaci Powers and husband, Jason Powers, Anthony Schillaci, Savannah Schillaci Cavazos and husband, Carlos Cavazos, Samantha McClendon and Niko Schillaci and wife, Taylor Schillaci.and Caroline Schillaci. She also had three great-grandchildren, Jackson, Reagan and Madison Powers.
Savera’s family was everything to her, and she was everything to us. A daughter, a sister, a mother and a grandmother. Her continued guidance and love will carry her family through to the end of our days. We know we will miss her but that she will be with us always, looking after us, guiding us, and keeping us in her prayers from above. Thank you all for sharing your memories and honoring our beloved MawMaw.
