If you knew her, you likely remember her distinctive laugh—bright, genuine, and impossible to ignore. And if not her laugh, then surely her unwavering devotion to what mattered most: her faith, her family, and every commitment she embraced with quiet determination.
She was born on February 14, 1949, in Cairo, Egypt—the second of four daughters to Samira Abdel Messieh and Youssef Guindi Mishriky. From an early age, she showed a sharp mind and a strong work ethic. She was accepted into the Medical School at Cairo University, but quickly discovered that the realities of blood and dissection were not quite her calling. With a good dose of soul-searching, she found her true fit in the School of Pharmacy, where her talents and temperament aligned perfectly.
After immigrating to the United States with her family, she earned her pharmacy degree from Wayne State University and began her career in retail pharmacy. Life, however, had a wonderful surprise in store. During a family trip to Houston, Texas, she met Mamdouh—an engineer preparing for an assignment in Saudi Arabia. Each recognized in the other a kindred spirit, and what began as a chance meeting soon grew into a lifelong partnership. They were married in Michigan in 1977 and made their home in Houston, where they built a life rooted in love, faith, and shared purpose.
Together, they were blessed with two wonderful daughters, Michelle and Stephanie, who became the center of her world. Not long after settling in Houston, she joined MD Anderson Cancer Center—yet another perfect fit. There, she spent the majority of her professional life, caring for others with compassion, diligence, and grace.
Even in retirement, her instinct to serve never faded. She gave her time generously, volunteering with various organizations and continuing to touch lives in quiet, meaningful ways.
Through every chapter of her life, she remained steadfast—guided by faith, grounded in love, and always ready with that unforgettable laugh.
