Sharon Elizabeth Heath was born on May 28th, 1958 to Robert Audley Heath and June Miller Heath in Houston, TX, making her our first Texas-born family member. She was educated at Condit Elementary, Jane Long Junior High and Bellaire High School. She attended North Texas State University and then the University of Houston, where she obtained a BA in Education.
While at the University of Houston, Sharon became a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority and made lifelong friends. Following graduation from the University of Houston, Sharon taught for a few years at the Elementary School level in the Fort Bend County School District and was beloved in this role during her career as an educator.
Life events led to her move to Oklahoma, where her professional career in counseling took flight. She attended Cameron University, where she obtained a Master's in Behavioral Science Degree pioneering in the area of Art Therapy, a field where she excelled, and went on to publish an extraordinary book on this subject.
While living in Norman, Oklahoma, fate again steered her career when the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building was bombed in Oklahoma City. Sharon was called upon to counsel the traumatized victims of that tragedy. She became an expert in PTSD counseling, which ultimately led her into several intensive years of globetrotting on behalf of the US Military. Her counselling took her all over the United States, to Germany and the Azores in Europe, Japan and other parts of Asia… essentially to any US base that was in dire need of her trauma counselling skills in the realm of Art Therapy.
Returning to Oklahoma, Sharon began her courageous 23-year battle with cancer. She survived five separate bouts of cancer with intensive treatment protocols each time until her last diagnosis in November of last year.
Sharon will be remembered for her incredible loving nature. Multitudes of people cherished her as a friend, daughter, sister, and aunt. Her smile lit up every occasion she was a part of, and her humor both entertained and healed.
She was imbued with great musical and artistic talent, which she displayed on the piano and in her Art Therapy practice. She was also an accomplished equestrian who, from early childhood, had developed a great love for horses. She was devoted to her dogs, cats, ducks and the guinea hens she raised when living on her property in Oklahoma. When her Mother died, she wrote the song “Guinea Hens and Angel Pins,” as a tribute to her.
As an Aunt, Sharon occupied a special place in her family. She was a confidante, a keeper of family lore and history, a researcher of others’ illnesses, with carefully investigated resources and courses of action. She was the creator of fun trips, especially when she lived by a lake in Oklahoma, and her nieces and nephews could
go boating, go out to sing karaoke, visit the casino, and make music together. She continued to encourage artistic talent in her great-nieces and nephews.
Despite valiantly, bravely, and with unceasing positivity fighting cancer for 23 years, on August 9, 2026, her body could endure no more.
She is predeceased by her father, Robert A. Heath, her mother, June Miller Heath, and her older brother, Gregory Michael Heath. She is survived by her brother, Audley and wife Catherine, sister-in-law Kathy Heath, and nieces, Alison & husband Farhan, Amy, Cody & wife Rhea, Meaghan & husband Myles, Rebecca & husband Dan,
Audley Jr., and 14 grand nieces and nephews who were the lights of her life, and her significant other, James Tanner, who tirelessly cared for her during her final illness.
We are so grateful for the loving care of her oncologist, Dr. Luis Comacho, and his Staff and the Hospice nurses, who cared for her in her final days.
A memorial service celebrating Sharon's exceptional life will be held on August 23, 2026, at 2:00 pm at Forest Park Funeral Home – 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, TX 77077. We invite all who knew and loved Sharon to join us in honoring her memory.
In lieu of flowers, we encourage you to donate to a charity of your choosing and honor Sharon's legacy of learning and teaching by seeking out new knowledge, pushing beyond the boundaries of the known, and sharing these insights with others as she pursued through her Art and biofeedback therapy. This, we believe, would be the best tribute to her extraordinary life.
