Sharron did not come here alone. She was born on Thanksgiving day. Her mother, Merdis Kemp was a strong woman who gave birth to four babies that year. Her brother, Anthony was nine months old when the triplets were born. Sharron was our one sweet little girl. Times were hard, but we didn’t even know it because our home was filled with joy. She grew up in a house full of boys, but learned early on how to have a commanding nature and have her way. If she wanted the ball she would cry and get her brothers in trouble until one day, Mom caught her torturing them.
After graduating college at Langston University, her commanding nature served her well when she joined the army and achieved the rank of Sergeant. She received many declarations and awards. In the army she had the opportunity to travel the world, jumped from planes, hiked up mountains and as she stated “ lived a good and exciting life”. Once she left the service, she was encouraged by her brother-in-law, Tom Walker, who worked for the Metropolitan Transit Authority Team (Metro) to join the team. Here, she served the residents of Houston for many years doing a job she loved.
Sharron was multi-talented. She was an amazing chef and creative cook. We all enjoyed savory dishes, especially her buttery biscuits. We were amazed how she could literally fix anything, She could literally take a motor out of a car and repair it. We all benefited from her love of fixing things. She loved her nephews. She taught them to work on their own cars and was known to bake birthday cakes for them. Some of their fondest memories are when she went on road trips for their sporting events.
She is recently preceded in death by so many relatives; an uncle and aunt, sister-in-law and two cousins. She also has two brothers, Darron and Anthony, who have gone ahead of her and they have welcomed her arrival. We imagine them greeting her, bonding and comforting her with the strength of our amazing family.
Left here to sorely miss and always remember her is; her sister “Sissy” Linda Walker, older brothers, Raymond Kemp and Sylvester Kemp; and her “womb mate” Barron Kemp; nephews and nieces, Treon Simmons, DeMorrice Baisey, Tom Walker, Daniel Walker, Sylvester Blount, Damien Kemp, Raymond Williams, Brachell Kemp and Tangelia Kemp; and a host of grand-nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors.
