Sherry Lynn Grant (nee Pruitt) was born on October 16, 1962, in Kenosha, Wisconsin, to James Pruitt and Freddie La Lond. She grew up with her sister Tammy and brother James Jr. and experienced a loving and nurturing childhood filled with family, friends, and cherished memories that she carried with her throughout her life. After graduating from high school, Sherry moved to Tucson, Arizona to be closer to her sister Tammy, where she was married and started a family. She had three children, Eric Jr., Andrew, and Jasmine, who were the greatest blessings in her life.
Despite bravely fighting breast cancer for exactly 30 years, Sherry never let her illness define her or hold her back from achieving her dreams. She devoted her life to raising her children, while also balancing a full-time job at Walmart where she worked for almost three decades and pursuing her passion for learning by graduating from her cherished alma mater, The University of Arizona, a testament to her indomitable spirit and unwavering determination.
After all three of her children graduated from college, Sherry relocated to Houston, Texas, in 2017 to be closer to her family. She spent the remaining years of her life creating treasured memories with her loved ones, including her children, grandchildren, and extended family. On Easter weekend, Saturday, April 8, 2023, God called Sherry home to her everlasting life, surrounded by her three children and family. Although her physical presence may be gone, Sherry leaves behind a legacy that will live on for eternity.
Sherry touched countless lives throughout her journey and will be remembered for her unwavering positivity, kindness, and thoughtfulness, even in the face of adversity. Her dedication to her faith was inspiring, and the way she treated others was a true reflection of God's love and how He worked through her. Sherry's impact will continue to be felt by all those who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be deeply missed but cherished forever.
Sherry's final wish was to return with her family to the place she felt was home, Tucson, Arizona, to witness the beauty of the Arizona sunset. Her loving children fulfilled this wish, and in January 2023, Sherry, her three children, their partners, and her beloved grandchildren returned to Tucson for one last time as a family. It was a poignant and unforgettable moment that encapsulated Sherry's enduring love for her family and her deep connection to the place she called home.
Sherry is survived by her devoted parents, Freddie La Lond and James Pruitt, her loving children Lil' Eric (Claudia), Andrew (Neeharika), and Jasmine (Laureen), her cherished grandchildren Alexia, Lalita, Titan, and an expectant baby girl, who all brought her immense joy. She is also survived by her beloved sister Tammy (Henry) and her dear brother James Jr. (Sharron). Additionally, she leaves behind her Houston-area nieces Trinecia (Jason), Tacoria (Antuan), and Tiffany, her adoring aunt Evelyn (Bennie), and loved cousin Yolanda (Dina) who were with her on her final day. Sherry will also be missed by countless additional family members who loved and admired her deeply.
In Heaven, Sherry will be reunited with her beloved Gran Gran and Pa Pa, who passed away before her. Together, they will watch over and guide the loved ones she left behind, knowing that she will always hold a special place in their hearts and memories.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Marilyn K. Croghan and Linda Moors, PA of Tucson, Arizona, for their tireless dedication and exceptional care during the early days of Sherry's diagnosis.
