Shireen Thakore peacefully went to rest in the arms of God and the angels in Heaven on August 28, 2015, at the age of 61. Shireen is survived by her beloved daughter, Sameera and her husband Salman Ghani and their son, Sufyan; as well as by her son Ashish and his wife Shirin.
Shireen is also survived by her brother Rustom Meher-Homji of Sydney, Australia and sister, Roshan Patel of London, England, along with their families; and the father of her children, Suhrid, and his wife Anita.
Shireen was born the youngest of the three children in October of 1953 in Bombay, India. Her father, Dr. Dady Rustom Meher-Homji, one of the first cancer surgeons in India to study in the United States, and her mother Mrs. Mani Meher-Homji, raised Shireen to care for and love everyone. Throughout her life, Shireen continued her parents’ legacy by caring for the people in her life above herself. She was born into the Zoroastrian faith and took great pride in being a member of the Parsi community both in Bombay and her adopted home of Houston.
Shireen married Suhrid Thakore in December of 1977, and the two soon moved to London before making their way to Houston in 1981. Although no longer married, Shireen and Suhrid remained the best of friends through the years. Shireen’s greatest joys in her life were her two children, Sameera and Ashish, her daughter-in-law Shirin, son-in-law Salman, and the newest addition to her family, her 15-month old grandson Sufyan. Shireen also took great joy in creating countless memories with her adopted family members, Norbert, Rosa and Estella. Always a social butterfly, Shireen cherished spending days drinking tea with her friends and travelling the world to visit her family.
Shireen overcame many hurdles during her lifetime, but her love of life never wavered. With her large heart, Shireen remained determined to face all adversities with a smile on her face. Shireen dedicated her life to helping others and will always be remembered for her huge heart, bright smile, and incredible spirit by the countless friends and family members whose lives she touched.
Prayers will begin for Shireen at the Zoroastrian Association of Houston Center (8787 W Airport Blvd, Houston, TX 77071) at 7:45 pm starting Friday, August 28, 2015 and continue at the same time each evening through Sunday, August 30, 2015.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, August 30, 2015 at the Chapel of Eternal Peace, 2454 S. Dairy Ashford, Houston, TX 77077, at 10:30 am.
In lieu of sending flowers, the family requests donations be made to Pratham USA (www.prathamusa.org), which helps educate underprivileged children in India.
