

Shirley Frank Calhoun, 92, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend passed away on Friday, the 30th of August 2024. Shirley was born in Houston on the 5th of November 1931, to Almedo Haude and August Conrad Frank.
Shirley attended Trinity Lutheran School and graduated from Reagan High School. While pursuing a degree in Medical Technology at the University of Houston, Shirley met and later married John C. Calhoun III, her husband of 44 years. Theirs was a happy marriage and John and Shirley had two children, Ann Elizabeth and John C. Calhoun IV.
In 1971, John and Shirley co-founded, along with the Norman family, Medco Medical Supply, Inc. In later years they would also start United Home Health Service, Inc. and Dialysis, Inc. “Oma”, as she was affectionally known, was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Oma was a beautiful person, inside and out, with a subtle wit, sweet nature and the kindest of hearts. She was always helping her family in meaningful and thoughtful ways. We are all truly blessed to have had her as part of our lives.
Preceded in death by her beloved husband, John. She is survived by her children, Ann E. Clark, and John C. Calhoun IV and wife Barbara; her grandchildren, Courtney A. Pape and husband Mark, John C. Calhoun, Kristen Calhoun M.D. and her wife Brianna, Jennifer Calhoun; great-grandchildren, Emily, Conrad, Henry, and Iris Pape; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
We thank everyone for all their prayers and loving support. A special thanks to Ms. Cindy Martinez for her many years of devotion and care for Oma and to Pastor Black for the years of visitation, ministry and support of Oma’s spiritual care.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o’clock in the afternoon until seven o’clock in the evening on Friday, the 13th of September, in the library and grand foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
A funeral service is to be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon on Saturday, the 14th of September, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 800 Houston Avenue in Houston, where the Senior Pastor, Reverend Michael Dorn is to officiate.
The interment will follow, via an escorted cortege at Glenwood Cemetery in Houston.
Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception at a venue to be announced during the services.
