Shirley Naomi (Brantley) Combs, 85, of Cypress, Texas, beloved wife, Mom, Memaw, sister and abiding child of God went from life to life into the loving arms of her Savior Jesus on September 6, 2024, peacefully in her sleep.
Shirley, born on August 15, 1939 to Marshall and Vera (Seale) Brantley in Lovelady, Texas, as she would jokingly say the peanut patch—the 2nd of 3 daughters. Marshall moved with his family to Houston, Texas in search of work to the Magnolia Park Area in the East End of Houston.
It is there at the Magnolia Park Baptist Church in the East End of Houston that Shirley gave her heart to Jesus and was baptized in 1946.
Later, they would eventually settle in the Houston suburb of Jacinto City, where she went on to graduate from Galena Park High School in 1957.
In 1958 Shirley met Chester Ray Combs, there in Jacinto City, Texas, and the two were inseparable from that point on. Shirley and Chester were married on October 3, 1958. Shirley passed away just shy of their 66th wedding anniversary. Shirley and Chester had two children, Marshall Charles and Sherl Rae Combs.
Shirley was a devoted wife to Chester and fiercely dedicated mom to Marshall and Sherl. Shirley was full of laughter, surprises and joy. She was artistic and creative. She loved to travel and go on vacations and was full of adventure and fun. She passed her passions and love along to her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. Family came first and was above all else to Shirley, a value she instilled in all those around her. The chasm left by Shirley’s (Mom’s/Memaw’s) absence is impossible to fill.
The greatest gift she gave to her kids was that she introduced them to Jesus. Shirley was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jacinto City and later joined St. John Lutheran Church in Cypress where her whole family attended.
She worked for the Harris County Tax Office and then spent some time as a pre-school teacher at a church in Huntsville. That was here favorite job in the world. She loved little kids. Most of her years were spent as a wife, homemaker, Mom and Memaw.
Shirley was predeceased by her Dad - Marshall Brantley, Mom - Vera Brantley and Sister - Marshalene Nabors. She is survived by her Husband - Chester (Bo) Combs, Son and his wife - Marshall and Roxann Combs, Daughter - Sherl Combs, Grandchildren; Ryan Faith Behrens, Robyn Hope Tarnowski and Rider Christian Combs; Great-Grandchildren: Cehlsey Faith Behrens, Cayden Love Behrens, Skylar Leeann Tarnowski, Kamryn Alyse Tarnowski and Willow Grace Tarnowski; Loving Grandson-in-laws: Craig Behrens and Kenny Tarnowski; Sister – Patricia McMurrough; and many nieces and nephews.
