Shirley was born June 30, 1935, in Lafayette, LA, to Peter Varisco and Cecile Fabre. She graduated from Mont Carmel Academy in 1953, and received an Associate Degree in Business Administration in 1955 from South Louisiana Institute (SLI which later became USL). She worked for Social Security as a French language expert, SW Bell as a secretary and drafts person, and a Stock Brokerage firm, about a year each. Later, in Houston and Sugar Land, she took art classes and became an accomplished painter. She was always an avid gardener, reader, home maker, and a long time member of St. Laurence Catholic Church. She taught her brothers to dance, her sons to cook, and her husband to love life. Shirley had a penchant for roses and was a board member of the Houston Rose Society. It was often said that she could plant a stick and make it grow.
Shirley Dieckman was preceded in death by her parents. She leaves behind her loving husband of 62 years, Harry Dieckman of Sugar Land, sons Kurt and wife Dawn of Buda, TX, and Eric and wife Khanh of Houston, TX, brothers Raymond and wife Susan of Philadelphia, PA, and Thomas and wife of New Orleans, LA, grandchildren Chris, Bailey, and Amber, and other family members. Shirley will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
The Dieckman family would like to give special thanks to Resolutions Hospice and staff who took exceptional care of her in the final days of life.
