

Born in Bay City, Texas, her family later settled in West Columbia where she graduated from high-school in 1955. She was raised in a close-knit family alongside her loving parents and older brother, surrounded by a large extended circle of aunts, uncles, and cousins. Those strong family bonds remained throughout her life, with frequent gatherings and celebrations as generations grew.
In the early 1960s, Shirley moved to Houston with her two young children, where she worked as an administrative assistant for Connecticut General Life Insurance and Brown Oil Tools. After marrying Martin Doyle in 1966, she chose to fully focus on raising their family. Together, they built a life grounded in love and shared adventure. During Martin’s career with Aramco, they lived in Saudi Arabia for ten years. Shirley embraced this chapter wholeheartedly, thriving in her community. She became deeply involved in her community, participating in the gardening club, arts and crafts, women’s fellowship, and numerous civic organizations. forming lasting friendships.
After returning to Texas, Shirley continued her legacy of service while nurturing her remarkable creativity, especially her love for decorating and floral arranging. She had a gift for transforming ordinary moments into something beautiful through her special touches that made gatherings feel warm and memorable. Before her health declined, she was a dedicated volunteer with Merry Ministries in Sugar Land and an active member of the Sugar Creek Baptist Church “Mixed Blessings” group. She was known for her loyalty, creativity, and unwavering devotion to those she loved.
Shirley is survived by her husband of nearly sixty years, Martin Doyle; her daughters, Michele Doyle and Kimberlie (James) Darrell; and her grandchildren, Christopher, Katie, Kellie, and Caleb Darrell; Patrick Smith; and Tishonna, Cullen, and Conner Pugh. She was also blessed with five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her immeasurable joy. She was preceded in death by her parents, H.L. and Lorraine Truitt; her brother, Leo Truitt; and her son, Kenneth Pugh.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to all who offered prayers, love, and support during this time. Special thanks are given to the nurses and doctors at Methodist Sugar Land ICU for their compassionate care.
Visitation will be held at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home, 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, TX 77077, US, on May 22, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, followed by a Funeral Service at the same location from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
A Committal Service will take place at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery, 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, TX 77077, US, on May 22, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 3:30 pm.
