Sinh Thi Nguyen

Our mother, Mrs. Trần Thị Sinh, was born in 1930 in Hà Nội, into a well respected and disciplined family. As the eldest of five siblings, she took on many responsibilities from a young age and became a steady pillar for her family.

In 1948, she married our father, Mr. Nguyễn Văn Ty, and together they raised five children. Her life passed through many historic upheavals: living under French colonial rule; migrating to South Vietnam in 1954; and in 1975, boarding the Trường Xuân ship with her family in search of freedom, arriving at the Hong Kong refugee camp before resettling in the United States under sponsorship. The family first lived in Massillon, Ohio, and in 1981 moved to Houston, Texas, where we have remained ever since.

Throughout this long and challenging journey, our mother was the heart of the family—devoted, steadfast, and nurturing, guiding her children to become good people and succeed in life.

In service to society, she once served as Vice President of the Dục Anh Association in Saigon, caring for orphaned children and helping them obtain education, food, and clothing. In Houston, she became the first woman to serve as President of the Bellaire Senior Association (1991–2007), earning deep respect and affection for her capable leadership and kind spirit.

Spiritually, she took refuge under Venerable Thích Tâm Châu, receiving the Dharma name Tịnh Hạnh. She was one of the founding members of Phật Quang Temple, contributing significantly to the establishment and growth of one of the first Vietnamese Buddhist temples in Houston. Over the years, she served in many roles, including Head of the Pháp Hoa Committee, Chief Treasurer, and Vice President, always dedicated to temple affairs. She was also appointed Chánh Tế (Chief Ritual Officer) in major ceremonies at the Tiên Thiên Thánh Mẫu Temple.

Our mother was intelligent, compassionate, gracious, and always ready to help those in need. In her younger years, she devoted herself fully to her family; once her children were grown, she dedicated her time and energy to the temple, the community, and her spiritual practice.

Her life was a shining example of virtue, compassion, and selfless service.

She passed away on July 18, 2026, at the blessed age of 95, leaving behind profound love, cherished memories, and a precious spiritual legacy for her children, grandchildren, and the community.

We miss our mother deeply. May her spirit, supported by the Three Jewels, be reborn in the Western Pure Land. 🙏

Tiểu Sử Mẹ Chúng Tôi – Bà Trần Thị Sinh (Pháp Danh: Tịnh Hạnh)

Mẹ chúng tôi, bà Trần Thị Sinh, sinh năm 1930 tại Hà Nội, trong một gia đình nề nếp. Là chị cả của bốn người em, mẹ sớm gánh vác việc nhà và trở thành điểm tựa cho gia đình.

Năm 1948, mẹ kết duyên với bố chúng tôi, ông Nguyễn Văn Ty, và cùng nhau nuôi dạy năm người con. Cuộc đời mẹ trải qua nhiều biến cố lớn: sống dưới thời Pháp thuộc; năm 1954 di cư vào miền Nam; năm 1975 cùng gia đình lên tàu Trường Xuân tìm tự do, đến trại tỵ nạn Hồng Kông rồi sang Hoa Kỳ theo diện bảo trợ, định cư tại Massillon, Ohio. Năm 1981, gia đình chuyển về Houston, Texas sinh sống cho đến nay.

Trong suốt hành trình đầy thử thách ấy, mẹ luôn là người giữ vững gia đình—tận tụy nuôi dưỡng, dạy dỗ con cái nên người và thành đạt.

Về mặt xã hội, mẹ từng là Phó Hội Trưởng Hội Dục Anh tại Sài Gòn, chăm lo cho các trẻ cô nhi có cơ hội học hành và đủ cơm áo. Tại Houston, mẹ là người phụ nữ đầu tiên đảm nhận chức Hội Trưởng Hội Cao Niên Bellaire (1991–2007), được mọi người kính trọng vì sự điều hành khéo léo và tấm lòng nhân hậu.

Về tâm linh, mẹ quy y với Hòa Thượng Thích Tâm Châu, pháp danh Tịnh Hạnh. Mẹ là một trong những thành viên sáng lập chùa Phật Quang, góp phần xây dựng và phát triển ngôi chùa đầu tiên của cộng đồng Phật tử Việt Nam tại Houston. Mẹ từng đảm nhiệm các chức vụ: Trưởng ban Pháp Hoa, Tổng Thủ Quỹ, Phó Hội Trưởng, và nhiều năm tận tụy trong mọi Phật sự. Mẹ cũng từng được cử làm Chánh Tế trong các nghi lễ lớn tại Đền Tiên Thiên Thánh Mẫu.

Mẹ là người thông minh, bao dung, biết điều và luôn sẵn lòng giúp đỡ những ai gặp khó khăn. Khi còn trẻ, mẹ hết lòng chăm sóc gia đình; khi con cái trưởng thành, mẹ dành trọn tâm lực cho chùa chiền, cộng đồng và việc tu tập.

Cuộc đời mẹ là một tấm gương sáng về đạo hạnh, lòng từ bi và tinh thần phụng sự. Mẹ viên tịch ngày 18 tháng 7 năm 2026, hưởng thượng thọ 95 tuổi, để lại niềm thương tiếc vô hạn và một di sản tâm linh quý báu cho con cháu và cộng đồng.

Chúng con nhớ mẹ nhiều lắm. Nguyện cầu hương linh mẹ nương nhờ oai lực Tam Bảo, vãng sanh Tây Phương Cực Lạc. 🙏
