Sonny Tu of Houston, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, September 3rd at the age of 71. He was born on June 25, 1954 in Bien Hoa, Vietnam where he grew up and lived until he arrived in Los Angeles, California, in 1978 as a refugee after the Vietnam War. He eventually met his wife in 1987 and went on to have 2 daughters. They relocated to Houston, Texas in 1996.
Tu worked as a dental technician.
He was deeply compassionate and loved helping people and was actively involved in the community. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, telling stories, laughing, playing with his grandkids, taking pictures, arts and crafts, browsing through Costco and other similar stores, and tending to his backyard garden. We will miss his bright and warm light that he spread everywhere through his selfless acts of kindness and jovial laughter.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Susanna, and sisters Tu Cuc Huong and Lisa Tu.
He is survived by his daughter Iris and her husband, Ting; daughter Connie and her husband, David; granddaughter, Zera; grandson, Emery; brothers Thomas, Tu Truong Viet, and Dennis; sisters Tu Cuc Chi, Tu Ha Chi, Tu Dao Chi; mother-in-law Anh; brother-in-law Erik and his wife Trinh; backyard stray cat Catto; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Family and friends are invited to attend a viewing and visitation at Chapel of Eternal Peace (2454 S. Dairy Ashford Rd, 77077) on Friday, September 19, 2025, from 10 AM to 8 PM. Funeral services will be at the Chapel of Eternal Peace on Saturday, September 20, 2025, from 10 AM to 12:30 PM.
A committal service will follow at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, located at 13001 Katy Fwy, Houston, TX 77079, on September 20, 2025, at 1:00 pm.
