Sosamma Daniel, affectionately known as Annie, was born on June 5, 1950, in Kaviyoor, Thiruvalla, India. She was the fourth child of the late Varghese Mathai and Rebeca Mathai.
After graduating from NSS High School in Kaviyoor, and with the support of her family, Annie pursued her calling to care for the sick by enrolling in the nursing program at Medical College Hospital in Nagpur, Maharashtra. With compassion in her heart and a deep sense of purpose, she embarked on a lifelong journey of service through nursing.
Following the completion of her nursing degree, she married and began her career, working as a nurse in both New Delhi and Iran. In 1981, Annie moved to the United States and made her home in Houston, Texas. By God’s grace and provision, she soon began working at Methodist Hospital, where she served faithfully for 35 years—most of them in the Neuro ICU.
Annie was a devoted mother, first blessed with her daughter Princy in 1977, and again with her second daughter Priya in 1984. Though life brought many trials and tribulations, she endured them with unwavering faith in the Lord. She worked tirelessly, often taking night shifts, so her daughters could receive the best care and education. Sacrifice was the hallmark of her life.
A woman of deep Christian faith, Annie instilled those same values in her children. Her love for God was evident in her daily life. Even after working long nights, she seldom missed Sunday morning church service. She was a faithful and founding member of St. Gregorios Orthodox Church in Houston, where she found strength and joy in her church community.
Annie is survived by her loving daughters, Princy Mohan and Priya Daniel; her cherished son-in-law, Jimmy Mohan; and her beloved grandchildren, Levi, Asher, Issa, and Simone. She is also survived by her brother Chacko Varghese (Thampi) and family; and her sisters Aleyamma Phillipose (Kunjamma) and family, Saramma Korah (Lilly) and family, Anamma Dass (Ammal) and family, and Rebeca Johnny (Thankamma) and family.
Above all, Annie leaves behind a legacy of faith, devotion, and sacrificial love. By God’s grace, she was surrounded by her family in her final days and was lovingly called home to be with the Lord. Though our hearts are heavy with sorrow, we rejoice in knowing she is now at peace, resting in the eternal presence of her Savior.
We are truly grateful to God for the life of Sosamma Daniel. She will be missed dearly, but her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
