

Sour Houn, age 92, passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2019 from non hodgkins lymphoma. He was born March 29, 1927 in Ream, Cambodia. While in Cambodia, he worked as a truck driver, fisherman, and farmer. In 1975, he and his family moved to Thailand where he lost his wife a year later. In 1978, he and his children immigrated to the United States where he enjoyed the rest of his life. Upon arriving to the United States, he worked in waste disposal for a short amount of time and soon retired.
Sour Houn was a loving and humble brother, husband, uncle, father, and grandfather. He had a strong, kind, and generous spirit. He had the greatest sense of humor as he always had the biggest smile on his face. His favorite pastime was fishing. He often made his own rods and nets to fish and crab. He was the biggest wrestling fan and amongst his older years, he enjoyed the Animal Channel, Wheel of Fortune, and Cambodian karaoke. He was also a world traveler. His travels include California, Florida, Illinois, Canada, Hawaii, France, Switzerland, Vietnam, Italy, and England just to name a few.
Sour Houn was the best dad/grandfather anyone could have. He made many sacrifices to get his family to America and was always willing to help anyone in any way he could. He was the most loyal to his wife, as he never remarried even though she passed over 40 years ago. He was also very active, even into his older years. He was commonly found gardening and had a great love of pecans. He collected and cracked easily over a million pecans.
He will be lovingly remembered by his children: Suzana Houn and husband Sath Prom, Nay Tea and husband Steven Tea, Paula Houn and husband Edison Walton, Robin Cruz and husband Gilbert Cruz, Tommy Houn and wife Dao Tran, Andrew Houn and wife Theresa Martinez, and Karen Pham and husband Timmy Pham. He will be greatly missed by his 19 grandchildren: Allison Prom, Ryan Tea, Christopher Tea and wife Michelle, Victoria Tea, Jaden Thai, Ethan Cruz, Gavin Cruz, Benjamin Cruz, Emma Houn, Gunther Houn, Dexter Houn, Hallie Houn, Abigail Houn, Phoebe Houn, Elijah Houn, Alanna Houn, Sydni Pham, Mia Pham, and Zoe Pham. He was predeceased in death by his father, Huy Heng; mother, Chou Kim; wife, Teav Hong; sister, Mon Chhin; and brothers, Seng Heng and Cheal Heng.
Viewing will be held May 10th at Brookside Funeral Home, 3410 Cypress Creek Parkway in Houston from 6pm-9pm.
Funeral services will be held May 11th at Brookside Funeral Home in Houston at 8 am.
Followed by his burial at 11 am, which will be at Earthman Resthaven Cemetery, 13102 North Fwy, Houston, TX 77060.
