

Stanley Marple Jr., 94 of Houston, Texas went home to be with the Lord on July 16, 2014 in the presence of his family. He is preceded by his two sons Charles and Melvin and his four siblings, Doris, Charles, Elaine and Mary. He is survived by his devoted wife of 69 years, Gladys (Farren), two granddaughters and six great-grandchildren.
He was born in Camden, NJ, grew up in Weymouth, MA and attended MIT where he earned his PhD. Stanley worked 41 years for Shell Oil Co. during which time he authored several patents. After retiring from Shell he went on to consult as a highly sought after expert in refining distillation, on which he published several texts. Stanley also became an adjunct professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of Houston and was an active member of the AIChE. A faithful member of Riverside UMC in Houston, he taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. Stan was awarded the Paul Harris Fellowship by the Rotary Club of West Houston of which he was a longtime member. He was a patron of the Houston Arts including the Opera, Ballet and Symphony.
Visitation will be held Friday, July 18, 2014 at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 19, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home in the chapel.
