

Born on September 23, 1932, in Houston, Texas, to the late Hector and Julia (Castillo) Cavazos, Stella spent her entire life dedicated to loving and caring for others in a way that honors her Heavenly Father. Stella was the attentive older sister of the late Hector Cavazos Jr. of California and Walter Cavazos of Houston. She was also a devoted aunt to her two beloved nephews, Brandon Cavazos and Curtis Cavazos, both of Houston. Known for her warmth, generosity, and strong Christian faith, she cherished time with her family and friends.
A 1951 graduate of Jefferson Davis High School, she earned a Registered Nursing degree from the Lilly Jolly School of Nursing in 1955 and dedicated 40 years to an exceptional nursing career at Memorial Hermann Hospital, where her compassion touched many co-workers and patients.
Stella was a faithful member of Houston’s First Baptist Church, where she was active in the Truth Seekers Bible Study, volunteered in numerous ministries within the church, and joyfully served in the Faith Center’s food pantry. She delighted in singing with the choir at church and participated in many performances and tours.
Stella is survived by her brother, Walter Roy Cavazos, and his wife, Joy, of Spring, Texas; her nephews, Brandon Cavazos and his wife, Jeannine, and Curtis Cavazos, both of Houston; her great-nieces, Julia Cavazos and Avery Cavazos; her great-nephews, Jackson, Jacob, John Mark, and James Cavazos; and several great-nieces and nephews in California. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hector and Julia Cavazos, and her brother, Hector Cavazos Jr.
A celebration of Stella’s life will be held on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at Brookside Funeral Home, located at 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039. The viewing will begin at 9:00 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 10:00 a.m. Immediately after the service, a short graveside ceremony will take place at 11:00 a.m., where Stella will be laid to rest. A reception will follow the graveside service.
Stella’s legacy of kindness, compassion, and caring for others touched the lives of many. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.
