Stephen graduated from Mirabeau B. Lamar High School. He retired as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army and as a Deputy from the Harris County Sheriff’s Department. He raised cattle and was an avid hunter and fisherman. The joy of his life was spending time with his children, Stephen William Maywald, Jr., Lillie Cullen Maywald and Sandra Ford Maywald.
Stephen is survived by a brother, Tony Maywald; his three children; and their mother, Antoinette Arnold Maywald. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, the late Sandra Jean Maywald.
The family would like to express their thanks to the staff at M. D. Anderson Hospital for their loving care, and also their gratitude to Dr. James T. Willerson for the many years he treated Stephen.
A memorial service is to be conducted at three o’clock in the afternoon on Wednesday, the 16th of May, in the chapel of The Church of St. John the Divine, 2450 River Oaks Boulevard in Houston, where the Rev. Dr. Douglas W. Richnow, Senior Associate Rector, is to officiate. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the nearby Sumners Hall.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family suggests contributions, in Stephen’s memory, be directed to the Texas Heart Institute, MC3-117, P. O. Box 20345, Houston, TX, 77225-0345; or to the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, P. O. Box 4486, Houston, TX, 77210-4486.
