Sterling proudly served in the United States Army and Army Reserve as a Private First Class from 1988 to 1996. His years in uniform reflected his commitment to discipline and duty—values that remained with him throughout his life.
A devoted father, Sterling cherished every moment spent with his sons: Demitrius E., Joseph D., Brandon L., Jorden L., and Khaleb T. Whether they were playing basketball together, watching football games, enjoying family breakfasts, or visiting loved ones in Louisiana, Sterling found joy in their company. These shared experiences were the heart of his world and brought him immense pride and happiness.
Sterling had a deep appreciation for health and fitness. He was often found engaging in physical activity—especially basketball—and maintained an active lifestyle that inspired those around him. He also enjoyed reading and following football closely, passions that added depth to his vibrant personality. He is remembered by his sons; his ex-wife Diana G.; his father Sterling; and his sisters Sheralyn and Carol. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lottie Mae Terrell.
