

It is with our deepest sadness and condolences that we announce the passing of Steve Anthony Petter of Rosenberg, Texas. He was born on July 24, 1945 and passed away on February 17, 2026 at the age of 80.
Steve was born in Boise, Idaho to Walter and Margaret Petter in 1945. He grew up in Houston, Texas and graduated from Jesse H. Jones High School in Houston. After graduation, Steve went on to join the US Air Force and was stationed in Texas, Kansas, South Dakota and Vietnam. While stationed in Kansas, he attended a branch of the University of Kansas with a concentration in Business Administration, which would help him later in his business career. During his military service, he received 9 medals including the Commendation Medal and Presidential Unit Citation. He was honorably discharged in 1965 and returned to Houston where he met his loving wife, Janet McCollough and began his career. Steve’s vocation was as a commercial insurance underwriter and supervisor in the Houston area with various underwriting organizations, some of which included Continental Insurance, J.H. Blades & Co., Baccala & Shoop, and Home Insurance. Steve was known being a great mentor to others both in insurance and other endeavors through the Veteran Administration. He and Janet raised their two sons in Alief/Southwest Houston. He enjoyed spending time with his family, coaching his sons youth sports teams and watching them play sports through high school, spending time with his grandkids, attending family gatherings, serving at church, walking his dogs, and helping with “DIY or fix it up projects” with those he loved including his family, friends, and neighbors.
Steve was survived by his wife, Janet Petter of Rosenberg, TX, and two sons, Brian Petter (Jenny) of San Antonio, TX and Marc Petter of Rosenberg, TX, as well as six grandchildren: Zachary, Madeline, Timothy, and Michael Petter of San Antonio,TX, and Keila and Koen Petter of Rosenberg, TX. In addition to his immediate family, Steve was survived by his four siblings, Cindy Doyle, Richard (Gloria) Petter, Sharon (Rudy) Woodhouse, Gary (Jeanean) Petter, and many nephews and nieces including: Jennifer Hunter, Amy Etchberger, Christy Petter, Justin Petter, Leah Gault, Jill Segura Broussard, Drew Segura, Chris Petter, Daniel Petter, and Matthew Petter.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Margaret Petter.
Services for Steve Petter will be celebrated by family at a military graveside service at Houston National Cemetery on March 13th followed by a come and go gathering in his memory afterwards at his family home in Rosenberg, TX from 2-4pm.
