From the eyes and heart of Mr Lima’s son-in-law……Mr Lima was the kind of person and family man that I hope to be like someday. From the beginning, he always made me feel like part of the family, always asking about my day or my job or engaging in conversations about things that he knew I enjoyed. He never judged me and I know he could have, but instead, he chose to see the good inside me, as he did with everyone. I never heard him say a negative word about anything or anyone.
Mr Lima’s kindness and generosity always amazed me. I learned that it was very common that one of his family members or friends might open their mailbox and see an unexpected gift. And of course, I experienced this as well on multiple occasions. He would get so excited as he presented me with some of his favorite keepsakes, his baseball almanac, his collection of Elvis albums, a book on vintage cars that he loved, and so on.
A great family man, Mr Lima dearly loved and supported his wife and three daughters. I heard so many stories about how they went everywhere together, whether to the beach or the campsite or Disney World, he was always providing a fun lighthearted environment for his family. “Man, I love taking long trips on the road,” he would say. His beautiful daughter Julie and I enjoy carrying on this tradition with our children and I couldn’t be more grateful, as our trips together have been the most memorable moments of my life.
Mr Lima was a great handyman, and I definitely am not. But with his help, I have accomplished more than I ever thought I could, in taking care of my household, something I can pass along to my kids.
The two subjects I have always enjoyed most were right up his alley, movies and baseball. He was amazed that I knew some of the old movies he liked, like High Noon and he always had interesting stories about movies and performers he had seen. And being a sports fan, no conversation would be complete without talking about the old time New York Yankees and Brooklyn Dodgers.
Having lost my father at an early age and missed out on some of the guidance that helps a boy grow into a man, it’s like Mr Lima was brought into my life like an angel from above, to help me fill that void and fulfill my potential as a husband and father. I am forever grateful to have known him for the short time we had together and will miss him greatly. But his spirit will live on inside me, and help me enrich the lives of those that I love. Rest In Peace Mr Lima. I’ll never forget you.
We want to thank everyone for your support, daddy is smiling above.
