

She graduated from Ashland High School in Ashland, Kentucky where she was a cheerleader for 3 years. Susan attended the University of Kentucky and was member of Chi Omega. She married her high school sweetheart, Curtis Michael Garver and was blessed with two daughters. Following a move to Texas, Susan devoted her time to her family and was an active PTA volunteer and Girl Scout troop leader for many years.
Susan was an elegant hostess and enjoyed entertaining for family, friends and supporting her husband’s many interests. She had a passion for traveling and was able to share her love of European travel with her family.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Opal Sagraves Barrick and Frederick Pierpoint Barrick Sr. and her brother, Frederick Pierpoint Barrick Jr.
Susan is survived by her husband of 58 years, Curtis Michael Garver; daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth Garver Black and Donald Walker Black, Gretchen Garver Hilyard and Alan Kent Hilyard; sister, Cynthia Barrick Sarver; four grandchildren, Brenna Black, Bailey Black, Madelyn Hilyard, Greg Hilyard and a large extended family.
Friends are cordially invited to a gathering and sharing of remembrances with the family from five o’clock in the afternoon until seven o’clock in the evening on Friday, the 18th of March, in the grand foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
A memorial service is to be conducted at ten o’clock in the morning on Saturday, the 19th of March, in the sanctuary of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 3471 Westheimer Road in Houston, where Dr. Tom Pace, Senior Pastor is to officiate. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the Hines Baker Room.
In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions in Susan’s name may be directed to the Houston Botanic Garden, 3701 Kirby Dr., Ste. 992, Houston, TX, 77098.
